Being Selfish to be Selfless

So maybe you just got dumped. Maybe you just lost your job or got a bad grade on something you worked really hard on. Or maybe you’re having, what I like to call, a day. You know when you feel like you just want to sleep all day and then maybe wake up around 5PM and eat Chinese food and watch Stranger Things? Yeah, that’s an example of a day (it’s totally okay to have a day three days in a row). Regardless of why you’re feeling sad and down in the dumps, there are things you can do to give yourself a much needed dose of some self-lovin’.

The first step? Give into the feeling. It is more than okay to eat junk food for a day (or days), to skip the gym, to skip brunch with the girls to sleep in, or to just slow down and take a look at what you need to be doing to make yourself happy.

The second step? Unplug from social media. I know it’s easier said than done, FOMO is real, but reading about Perez Hilton’s opinion on Kylie Jenner’s pregnancy can wait; you are more important.

The third step? Talk it out without someone, or better yet, write your feelings down. Acknowledge the way you’re feeling, and face it head on. This may even help you figure out why you’re feeling the way you are.

The best thing about self-love and self-care is that it’s all about you. It’s about being selfish now, so you can go out there and put out the best you possible.
